Bought a new printer. My old one died after 8 years!

Well my old printer of eight years finally died.  I know I can’t believe it myself.  It was an HP printer, scanner, copier.  I think I spent around $250-$300 for it, oh so long ago.  It was nice and worked great for everything I did.  Yes it was slow, but hey, who cares, if it works and why replace something that is not broken.

Now you may be saying wow!  Eight years and it never broke on you.  Hey I didn’t say it never broke, it did, I was just able to always fix it.  But this time, it was the main mother board that broke.  Just wouldn’t connect to the computer any more.

I replaced it with a Brother MFC-295CN.  I have to say I really like Brother printers.  This is my first one at home, but we used them at work and they are great work horses.  I was a little worried as all the printer’s at work were laser,  this is the first inkjet Brother I’ve ever dealt with, but it is trumpeting on fine.

One of the main reason why I love Brother printers so much, is because of their Linux support.  I plug it into the network and every computer can use it.  Regardless of OS.  I can even scan form it in Linux or Windows form any computer.  Plus it is a fax machine.  Not that I will ever really use that feature.

The auto-document feeder was also an added bonus.  It has already come in handy.

It is not really that good at photo printing, but hey anyone who is printing photos form home is wasting there money.  Send it to Costco or Walgreens.  Better prints and cheaper.  Though the ink on this baby is only around $12 dollars.  My old HP cost around $40 to replace the ink.  Though it defiantly probably held more ink.   Again that old printer was a monster compared to this one.

The upside to all of this, is that I only spent $69.00 for it.  Crazy how things change in 8 years.
